Call for evidence

The call for evidence is open to individuals, communities, businesses, or representative organisations from within Lancashire and beyond who have an interest in economic future of Lancashire and who can deepen the Panel’s understanding of the Lancashire economy.

Deadline for evidence Friday 28th May.

Please respond to as many of these questions as you feel able – it’s fine to leave boxes blank, and you may only want to focus on the first two questions.

Where relevant, please supply supporting evidence to strengthen your conclusions, which can be uploaded at the bottom of the form. Alternatively, you can use the upload function to upload a complete response in the form of a Word document or PDF file.

1. What are the main strengths and weaknesses of the economy of Lancashire?
2. Looking to the future, what are the major opportunities and threats for Lancashire? How does Lancashire need to respond to these?
3. How do different parts of Lancashire relate to each other, and to areas outside of Lancashire (e.g. Greater Manchester, the Liverpool City Region, West and North Yorkshire, Cumbria)?
4. How can Lancashire’s manufacturing sector adapt and thrive over the coming decades? What needs to happen to boost competitiveness, reduce carbon, and spur innovation? Which other sectors need to be prioritised, and how?
5. What are the barriers to people participating in, and benefiting from, economic growth? How do health, education, and skills in Lancashire impact upon people’s life chances – and how effectively do these systems work?
6. What is, or will be, the impact of the new Brexit settlement on Lancashire? Which international markets should Lancashire be prioritising for trade and inward investment? What is Lancashire’s unique export proposition?
7. Which projects/combination of projects (transport, energy, regeneration, housing, etc) could have the most impact across the whole county if delivered?
8. How can Lancashire best respond to the climate emergency, protect and enhance its natural environment, and support the transition to low/zero carbon?
